What is hybrid tanning?
Hybrid tanning is a light-based tanning method that combines traditional UV light with integrated red light wavelengths in a single session. UV light stimulates melanin production for tanning color, while red light supports overall skin appearance and tone—creating a more even, refined glow through precision light delivery.
How is hybrid tanning different from traditional tanning beds?
Traditional tanning beds rely solely on UV exposure. Hybrid tanning pairs UV with red light, allowing the skin to respond more efficiently and evenly. The difference isn’t intensity—it’s balance, control, and a higher-quality finish.
What role does red light play in hybrid tanning?
Red light wavelengths penetrate deeper than UV and are widely studied for their interaction with skin appearance and collagen-rich tissue. In hybrid tanning, red light supports visual skin quality and tone while UV focuses on color development.
How long is a hybrid tanning session?
Session length varies based on skin type, experience level, and individual response. All sessions are guided and calibrated to ensure controlled, intentional light exposure—not guesswork or overexposure.
How often should I do hybrid tanning?
Frequency depends on your skin type, goals, and tanning history. Most clients start conservatively and adjust based on how their skin responds over time. Our team will help guide appropriate spacing between sessions.
Is hybrid tanning safe?
All tanning involves UV exposure and should be approached responsibly. Hybrid tanning is designed to deliver controlled, consistent light exposure in a managed environment. We recommend following all usage guidelines and discussing any concerns with our team before starting.
Who is hybrid tanning best for?
Hybrid tanning is ideal for individuals who care about how their tan looks—not just how dark it gets. It’s well-suited for active lifestyles, professionals, and anyone looking for a more refined, even glow through smarter light delivery.
Do results vary from person to person?
Yes. Skin tone, melanin levels, lifestyle, and prior tanning experience all influence results. Some clients notice changes quickly, while others build results gradually over multiple sessions.
What system do you use for hybrid tanning?
At GOAT Wellness, hybrid tanning is delivered using the Ultrasun Q6/0 Hybrid, a premium system engineered for precision, consistency, and comfort.
Can hybrid tanning be combined with other GOAT services?
Yes. Many clients incorporate hybrid tanning alongside recovery and wellness services like cryotherapy or infrared sauna as part of a broader performance and lifestyle routine.
What are the benefits of using indoor tanning lotions?
Indoor tanning lotions are designed to support skin hydration and even light absorption during UV exposure. Properly formulated lotions help reduce dryness, improve how evenly color develops, and enhance overall skin appearance. Hydrated skin tans more consistently than dry skin, which can help reduce patchiness or uneven results.
Why don’t indoor tanning lotions contain SPF?
SPF is designed to block or reflect UV light. Indoor tanning lotions are formulated without SPF so UV light can interact with the skin as intended during a controlled session. Using SPF products while tanning can interfere with color development and lead to uneven results.
Why do I sometimes see uneven or un-tanned spots?
Uneven tanning can occur due to dry skin, pressure points, body positioning, or natural differences in skin thickness. Areas like shoulders, hips, and heels may receive less light if they’re pressed against the bed. Regular exfoliation, proper hydration, and slight position adjustments during sessions can help promote more even color.
How can I tan while protecting my skin?
Responsible tanning starts with proper spacing between sessions, using recommended products, and following staff guidance. Avoid overexposure, stay hydrated, moisturize regularly, and allow your skin adequate recovery time between sessions. Controlled, intentional exposure produces better results than aggressive tanning.
How do I protect my eyes during tanning?
Eye protection is essential. FDA-compliant protective eyewear is required during all tanning sessions to shield the eyes from UV exposure. Keeping your eyes closed alone is not sufficient protection. Protective eyewear is available on-site if you don’t bring your own.
Can I tan on the same day as other GOAT Wellness services?
Yes, hybrid tanning can be combined with other GOAT services. If you’re doing cryotherapy the same day, we recommend tanning after cryotherapy, since skin should be dry and free of sweat before entering the cryo chamber. Our team can help sequence your services appropriately.
Are there any contraindications for tanning?
Yes. Indoor tanning is not appropriate for everyone. Hybrid tanning is limited to adults 18 years of age and older. Valid photo identification is required, and tanning services are not offered to minors under any circumstances.
You should avoid tanning or consult a healthcare provider before tanning if you are pregnant; taking medications or using products that increase photosensitivity; have a personal history of skin cancer; have active skin conditions, open wounds, or infections; or have been advised by a medical professional to avoid UV exposure.
This list is not exhaustive. Individual response to UV exposure varies, and clients are responsible for disclosing relevant health information prior to service.
How often should I tan to avoid overexposure?
Tanning frequency varies based on skin type, experience level, and individual response. Starting conservatively and allowing adequate time between sessions helps support skin comfort and consistency. Our staff will help guide appropriate spacing based on your goals.
Do I need to prepare my skin before a tanning session?
Yes. Clean, dry skin without makeup, deodorant, or heavy skincare products allows for more even light exposure. Exfoliating regularly and moisturizing between sessions (not immediately before) helps maintain consistent results.
What to Expect at Your Tanning Appointment
Your tanning appointment begins with a brief check-in to confirm eligibility, review guidelines, and answer any questions. First-time clients may be asked to complete a short waiver and provide valid photo identification. Our team will help determine an appropriate session length based on your experience level and skin type.
You’ll be guided into a private tanning suite and provided with FDA-compliant protective eyewear, which is required for every session. Before starting, you’ll have time to prepare your skin and adjust comfort settings. Sessions are controlled, brief, and monitored to ensure intentional light exposure—not guesswork.
After your session, you’ll receive guidance on hydration, skincare, and appropriate spacing between visits to support responsible tanning and consistent results.
Protective Eyewear Requirement
Protective eyewear is required during all tanning sessions. Closing your eyes alone does not provide adequate protection from UV exposure. GOAT Wellness provides FDA-compliant protective eyewear for use during your session, or you may bring your own approved eyewear. Sessions will not begin without proper eye protection in place.
This policy is non-negotiable and is in place to ensure responsible, compliant use of indoor tanning equipment.
Do I need an appointment for tanning?
GOAT Wellness operates primarily by appointment. The door may remain locked unless a scheduled appointment is expected. Walk-ins are welcome, but availability is limited.
If you’d like to stop by without an appointment, we strongly recommend calling or texting ahead at 312-568-6821 to confirm availability and ensure we can accommodate you.
